The Gospel according to Paul

Speaker: Apostle Ernie

Most Christians adhere to the idea that Paul preached salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. They also believe Paul preached that Christians dont have to obey the law of Moses, and all they have to do is believe Christ died for their sins.

What was Paul’s message according to the Bible?

Acts 26:17-18: 17 I will rescue you from your own people and from the Gentiles. I am sending you to them 18 to open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me. 19 “So then, King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the vision from heaven. 20 First to those in Damascus, then to those in Jerusalem and in all Judea, and then to the Gentiles, I preached that they should repent and turn to God and demonstrate their repentance by their deeds.”

In Acts 20:21, Paul says, 21 I have declared to both Jews and Greeks that they must turn to God in repentance and have faith in our Lord Jesus.

According to Paul, Jesus told him to preach repentance from darkness to light, from the power of Satan to Yehovah. Paul told everyone they needed to demonstrate their repentance by their deeds. If they repent, Jesus promises forgiveness of sins and a place among those sanctified by faith in Him (in Jesus).

How did Paul understand repentance?

Paul uses a Greek word that means a change of mind and a change of attitude concerning the demands of God for a right living. To repent means to change your mind and attitude concerning God’s orders for the right living.

In Acts 24:14, and 25:8, Paul tells us the law of Moses is God’s standard for a right living. To repent means to change your mind and attitude concerning the written law of Moses, stop disobeying it, and start obeying it. You have to prove your repentance by living according to the law, according to Paul in Acts 26:20. If you repent (begin obeying the law of Moses), you will receive forgiveness of sins. When you have been forgiven for your sins, your faith in Jesus will sanctify you. (Acts 26:20)

Most Christians adhere to the idea that Paul preached salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. They also believe Paul preached that Christians dont have to obey the law of Moses, and all they have to do is believe Christ died for their sins.

As we have learned today, Paul preached repentance from lawlessness to the law of Moses. Paul told everyone they needed to prove their repentance by their deeds. This would guarantee forgiveness of sins; if they also believed in Jesus, they would be sanctified.

So, according to Paul, the law forgives, and faith in Jesus sanctifies.
