There is power in the name of?

In John 17:11, we read, Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name, the name you gave me, so that they may be one as we are one.

At first glance, it seems as if Jesus is telling us there is protection in His Father’s name and His Father’s name is the same as Jesus’s name. But this tends to confuse us because we know Jesus is called Jesus, and God’s name is God? So how can there be protection in the name of the Father if His name is not Jesus but God?

First, we have to remember, Jesus’s name was never Jesus; it was and will forever be Yeshua. God’s name is not God, God is a title, but His Name is Yehovah. Yeshua is a Hebrew name, meaning Yehovah saves. So what Yeshua is telling us here in John 17:11 is that the protection we need is found in the name of Yehovah because Yehovah is our Savior. He is not only our Savior for eternal life; He is also our Savior in everyday here-and-now circumstances. (Deu 28:1-14)

In John 14 and 1.John 2, we learn how to be united with Yehovah and Yeshua. If we obey the Mosaic law, our obedience to the law unites us with them. The most important commandment in the law is “Hear Israel, Yehovah is our God, Yehovah is one God.” When we seek refuge in the name of Yehovah, and we look to Him for salvation, we obey the most important commandment of the law of Moses. If we continue to follow the law, we will remain united with Yehovah.

Do you need protection today?

Seek the name of Yehovah and obey His law and He will save you and keep you.
